The University of Michigan strives to contribute positively to the culture Ann Arbor and Washtenaw County. Every day, there are dozens of events that are free and open to the public  drawing visitors to the area. It is impossible to catalogue every cultural draw affiliated with the University of Michigan, but some prominent ones are listed below.

Every year, the Ann Arbor Art Fair draws over 400,000 visitors to the city

The Ann Arbor Art Fair is the largest juried art fair in the nation, and features nearly 1,000 artists. the University of Michigan is a proud community sponsor of this annual event.

The University of Michigan Museum of Art hosted over 179,000 on-site visitors and over 680,000 on-line visitors in 2025.
UMMA held over 134 public programs with over 14,000 attendees in 2025

Matthaei Botanical Gardens and Nichols Arboretum drew over 550,000 visitors, including 118 K-12 groups, in FY2025

The Gardens and Arboretum hosted 46 weddings and 12 Celebrations of Life  in FY2025

The building includes a state-of-the-art Plant Growth Facilities and Imaging Core, a cafe and one of the largest university aquatics facilities in the country.

The University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance (SMTD) connects the School and its resources to the community through Youth Programs, Adult Programs and Community Outreach Programs.

In 2025, the Ann Arbor Film Festival featured 12 short film competition programs, 9 special programs, 3 juror programs, 2 awards programs, 2 student programs, and a constellation of “Off the Screen” installations, performances, and salons.

The Ann Arbor Film Festival receives more than 3,000 submissions annually from more than 65 countries and serves as one of a handful of Academy Award®-qualifying festivals in the United States.
